As a side note, I do wish Tarja would be signed by a metal label instead of Universal, but I guess they do give her more opportunities and since, um, she's pretty much left unattended and alone to do whatever she pleases. I, for one, can't wait to hear What Lies Beneath.
Now, for something good.
I'm really not at all a fan of Within Temptation, I can stand Sharon den Adel's voice only for so long, but I really liked a song I discovered last night (yes, I'm aware of how late I am) called Utopia. If you're into the female-fronted metal scene, I'm sure you've heard it. It's a duet with Chris Jones. It's full of feeling, and it gives me a country sort of vibe, I like that. The lyrics are really good as well, so check it out if you haven't already.
Speaking of lyrics, recently I've been scouting for some good female-fronted bands... let's just say my musical taste is incredibly selective... and I came across this one band called Coronatus. I really dig the music, it's incredible, the lovely ladies that sing in it are quite lovely, they each have different kind of voices, and yet it sounds incredible. Now, the music I dig, and the voices I dig, but the lyrics? Perhaps it's just the song that introduced me to them in the first place... Hot and Cold... please, have a look:
You have retired
In a room that's just for you
You don't talk all day
Want to be left in peace to build up strength
You know you're sexy
And that you're popular
You're acting so cool
If I sat next to you I would freeze like ice
But when the day grows older
And when the night gets colder
You suddenly approach to me
And as you treated me, I will now treat you
I want to make you hot, I'll make you hot
And right now when you're hot I'll leave you cold, I will leave you cold
I am gonna make you hot, I'll make you hot
And it's cool that when you're hot I'll leave you cold, hot and cold
In a room that's just for you
You don't talk all day
Want to be left in peace to build up strength
You know you're sexy
And that you're popular
You're acting so cool
If I sat next to you I would freeze like ice
But when the day grows older
And when the night gets colder
You suddenly approach to me
And as you treated me, I will now treat you
I want to make you hot, I'll make you hot
And right now when you're hot I'll leave you cold, I will leave you cold
I am gonna make you hot, I'll make you hot
And it's cool that when you're hot I'll leave you cold, hot and cold
Thank you. Right on... um, I don't even know where to begin picking these apart. Now normally, I'm all about "who the hell cares about technical things, as long as you enjoy the music." But these lyrics are just horrible, and not just horrible, as soon as I heard the second verse... ok, that was it for me. I don't care to listen to a band that has lyrics this shallow.
Now, for Emilie Autumn, I can't understand what all the hype is about, so, please, someone kindly explain why a good third of my friends are dying their hair bright pink and acting like they know everything about the Victorian Era. Really. There's a comment box just below. Please, explain the hype, because the music itself isn't that great, Emilie Autumn and the uh, Bloody Crumpets (is it?) don't look much different than fetish strippers.
